The experiences I had while at Stivers range from administration to collection development. I was fortunate to be able to have so many hands-on opportunities while in this setting. The library is a part of a remodeling and addition that occurred to the building within the past five years. The library is spacious with a balcony that makes up the second level. Although

it is spacious the layout and design does not allow the librarian to utilize its space to the fullest. The space is more aesthetically pleasing rather than functional. The computer lab for the building is located in the library which is around the perimeter of the second level. Die to the layout the librarian has no visibility of students while they are working on the computers. While at Stivers I conferenced with the librarian regarding the activities listed on the journal rubric. Some of the items I was not able to gather information on because there is not data being collected or a plan developed. I was not able to attend a department meeting, but I did help the librarian develop a cross-walk to use for a presentation on standards with the technology teams. The librarian attends staff meetings, district library meetings, attends school events and is active on the district technology committee. The libraries mission statement is the mission of the school, The mission of the Dayton Public Schools Library Media Centers is to provide every student with a foundation for lifelong learning and ensure that students and staff are able to integrate the Ohio Standards in a variety of informational formats. There is not advisory committee for the library at this time. I was able to review the library policies and procedures, which are briefly summarized on the libraries webpage. I also reviewed the detailed library and technology research center operating policies and the Dayton Public School selection policy procedures. The policies that are in place assure that students intellectual freedoms are being protected. The policy guidelines are detailed and specific, covering all areas from program commitments to students to censorship. The section on censorship was especially interesting and states what we have been taught there is no room for personal opinions in book selection. All books and topics need to be fairly represented and a variety of viewpoints need to be present in a collection. The changes I would make would be the access level to online resources. The districts strict filter system really limits access to some very good resources, for students and

teachers. I was able to briefly speak with one of the technology supervisors and I was told that in order to have more access the computers would need to be constantly monitored, and lack of staffing makes this difficult. The library does have a webpage. The page was developed last year and contains limited access to resources. I was able to create a multiple page website for the library that included many resources not previously offered. The site I created was in conjunction with the librarian and webmaster for the school. They provided input on some sites they would like to see made available and others I found to enhance the various magnet curriculum areas. During my meeting with the webmaster I asked about policies the district has in place. She said that everything is through one host. The Stivers site is the only school site with its own unique URL. This is because of the type of school it is and the various magnets. Only the webmaster can access the site so I developed my webpages through Weebly. The webmaster is going to take my information and transfer to the schools current page. During one of my meetings with the librarian I discussed the current budget. At this time the library does not have a budget for the year. They are not able to purchase books or other resources through the school. They did have a book fair while I was there and the librarian was able to purchase new fiction and nonfiction books through the profits. The libraries fiction collection is sufficient for now but the nonfiction books need updated. The school has different art magnets and the resources available for these students to use in limited. This is an area the librarian would like to develop in the future. Also I went through the common core reading list for the middle school grades, as requested by the principle. The seventh and eighth graders have low reading scores and they wanted to see what was available from the list, so they can use them

during lessons. This is another area that will need built up with in the collection. Many of the items were not available. The district does have a job description for the librarian.
