An illustration is a depiction (such as a drawing, painting, photograph, or other image) that is created to elucidate or dictate sensual information (such as a story, poem, or newspaper article). 2. A definition is a statement that explains the meaning of a term (a word, phrase, or other set [1] of symbols). The term to be defined is the definiendum. The term may have many different senses and multiple meanings. For each meaning, a definiens is a cluster of words that defines that term (and clarifies the speaker's intention). As an example: To successfully define the word "Vegan", the definiendum (the word "Vegan" itself) must be given a definiens (actually vegan has at least two definiens: One is "someone who avoids using animal products", and another definiens is "someone from a place called Vega, Norway"). 3. Definition of COMPARISON 1: the act or process of comparing: as a : the representing of one thing or person as similar to or like another b : an examination of two or more items to establish similarities and dissimilarities <his faults seem minor bycomparison> 2: identity of features : SIMILARITY <several points ofcomparison between the two> 3: the modification of an adjective or adverb to denote different levels of quality, quantity, or relation 4. Comparison and Contrast Use comparison and contrast to develop a topic by examining its similarities or dissimilarities toanother thing, process, or state. Comparison emphasizes the similarities, contrast the differences. A paragraph may use both comparison and contrast. In the following example, two kinds ofelectrical cable are compared. The aim here is to convey the superiority of A over B for twocategories of performance. 5.
