Materials: Work packet Clip board Pencil 12 crayons Connecting cubes Math journals Procedure: Students will be called to the rug based on what color they are wearing and be asked to grab a clip board. Once the students are at the carpet I will tell the students Today we are going to learn how to show two digit numbers as groups of ten and leftover ones. I will have 12 crayons in my hand, I will tell the students Only 10 crayons can fit in the box, some will be left over I will put 10 crayons in one hand and tell the students to pretend this on hand is the box. I will then ask the students how many are left over I will then ask the students how many tens there are and what the value is, I will then ask the students how many ones there are what the value is. At the carpet we will do the first 3 problems together, I will hand the worksheets out and tell the students using the connecting cubes to make the number 23. Once the students make the number 23 I am going to ask the students how many groups of tens there are and how many groups of ones there are. The next two numbers we are going to do as a class is 36 and 41 and I will ask the students how many tens and ones there are. I will explain that we are going to go back to our seats and the next page the students will work in partners and the last two pages we are going to work silently. I will then ask the boys to go back to their seat first and then the girls.

The students will work on their packets and raise their hands if they have questions. Once the students are done there will be a bonus problem on the board which will state Use the number 25 to create a word problem and state how many groups of tens there are and how many will be left over ones there are, and also make sure to include a picture.

Assessment: The work packet and the bonus problem will be the assessment.
