Activity 1 On a global scale This activity is a showcase of different children from around the world who live in poor

r and poverty stricken countries. The class will be asked to be broken up into their table groups and each given a case study/real life scenario of a child and be asked to fill in a worksheet using the information given. The reason why we chose to do this activity is to encourage the class to relate to real life situations and to start thinking about people who are suffering in the world around them. It is an opening activity which should generate plenty of discussion and interest to kick off the rest of the presentation. Activity 2 Poverty in our homeland This activity is known as the Bronfenbrenner Model activity. The model is used to show many factors which can affect a childs life, particularly focussing on a child from a low -income earning family. This model will be briefly explained and drawn on the whiteboard for the class to contribute by voicing out on what factors might appear in each dimension. Since this activity is in the lower half of the presentation, many members of the class should be able to point out what existing factors may effect a childs learning ability through what has been mentioned in previous slides. This activity will help the class to think critically about the local communities around them who are affected by poverty and what those members of the community may be going through. It will eliminate any preconceived judgement but at the same time create awareness.
