THEORYIt metallic specimen is subjected to gradually incressing uniaxial tensile load it get plastically deformed &finally failed.

Stress strain curece for Ducfile material A. Proportional limit It is defined as that stress at which stress strain curue begins to deuiated from its liner path. B. Elastic limitIt is defined as that stress at which stress limit up to which strain developed in material is not of permanent maters . C. Yield point It is stress beyond plastic limit on remoual of which matrial will not be able to recouer its original shape size . D. Ultimate stressStress which is obtained because of the largest value in tension test . E. Breaking stressStress at which material backs . STRESS -STRAIN CURVE FOR BRITTLE MATERIAL 1. Proportional limit Stress &strain are proportional limit &up to limit . 2. Fracture stress The material which only little elongation after the proportional limit its called as fracture stress.

Following properties are measured a) Proportional limitIt is the highest value of stress up to which is proportional to strain .

b) Elastic limitIt is the highest value of stress up to which deformation is temporary &beyond which they are plastic. c) Ultimate stress It is the highest value of stress that material can offer. d) Yield stress It is the stress at which material yield &above shouer plastic deformation . e) Resilience It is total energy absorbed by material during elastic deformation . f) Toughness Total energy absorbed by material prior its fracture. g) Ductility It is the ability of material to exhibit large plastic defomation prior to fracture under tensile loading condition .

h) Stiffness It is the sesistance offered by material to elastic deformation . i) Malleability -

It is the of material to exhibit large plastic deformation prior to frature under compressive loading condition . PROCEDURE In tensile testing machine & specimen is grippe at opposite end & its pulled apart as test specimen elongated in direction of applied load .it may be haue rectangear or square section it is obtained from a plate or shut form.
