RALLY & PROTEST

AGAINST ANTI-PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT POLICIES
When: Time: Where: Thursday, April 11, 2013 8:15am Walsh Elementary School (Front) 55 Dikeman Street Waterbury, Connecticut

Why: Parents have the legal right to protect and have access to their children within Public schools to ensure their childs safety and educational well being. Research clearly states "When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more." On April 9, 2013, notice was sent to ALL Walsh School Parents and Guardians banning them from participating in school wide informational morning meetings that parents have been attending for over seven years allowing them to actively engage in their childs education. Furthermore, parents and guardians were told to just drop their kids off at the entrance. Despite the 58% Hispanic population, the notice was not translated in Spanish. Concerns are being raised that this action is an immediate retaliation against Walsh parents and STUDENTS following a States ethics complaint against the Waterbury School District filed by a parent advocacy organization!
