Island man commentary

In this poem we can see that Grace Nichols has uncovered the calm and relaxing features of an island. This vision on the characters mind is exposed in the poem. In the poem the theme is a man how dreams of a perfect island. He narrates not only the visual but also the auditory. This makes it easier to imagine and analyse. However coming up to the end of the poem the man wakes up realizing that he wasnt in the island but in the busy city of London. The imagery in this poem is vast. Even if the poem is short in each line at the top of the poem it describes certain parts of the island very specifically. To the sound of blue surf in this line it show us that the character dreams in a blue sea with the sound of the crushing waves. Wild seabirds analysing this quote we can see that he even dreams with small details as animals. And fisherman pushing out to sea/from the east/of his small emerald island in this couple of lines we see that the detail is specific and well described. This all help us imagine the island because it is given in details and makes the picture clearer. In this poem is really strange because not all the lines are the same. Lines are not the same length, for example muffling muffling. However some lines are bigger such as he always comes back groggily groggily we can see that there is a huge difference between both lines. She also uses some complicated words like wombing, even though her use of punctuation and sentence structure is clear. We can also see alliteration in the quote sun surfing they both start with the sound su. Its rhythm is not clear because the poem dose not start instantly. Also there is some of repletion for example muffling muffling these techniques help the reader to stay focus and keep on with the poem.
