Local trainer Chad Brown enjoys a great summer, makes first Travers start

Mechanicville native and Saratoga Springs resident Chad Brown will saddle his first starter in his native regions biggest race, the Grade 1, $1 million Travers Stakes, today. Judging by the way Brown has been going, you can bet it wont be his last. Browns rise to the top of the training ranks since he went out on his own in late 2007 has been nothing short of meteoric. Hes saddled more winners each year since opening his stable, and this summer is second in the Saratoga trainer standings behind only megatrainer Todd Pletcher. Brown, 32, saddled his first Grade 1 winner, Zagora, in the Diana here on July 30; two weeks later, he followed up with Stacelitas victory in the Grade 1 Beverly D at Arlington. Today another two weeks later Brown will send out intriguing Travers longshot Bowmans Causeway, who ran creditably in two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown. See BROWN, Page 11A
