Subject Topic: Reading Grade: 5th Grade Students: 28

OBJECTIVES: To understand the problems developing with the City of Ember To justify power Students must identify the importance of the builders

STANDARDS: F4A- I can read on-level text with purpose and understanding F4B- I can on- level prose and poetry orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression.

MATERIALS: Question Sheets Vocabulary sheets City of Ember books

INSTRUCTION: Preparation: In preparation for these chapters I will need to re read and revise each chapter to fully discuss with the students. I will need to review character sheets and vocabulary for each individual chapter.

Anticipatory Set:

To provoke thought I will bring up the mood of the classroom. Talk about each individual students mood at the time. Then compare that to the mood of City of Ember. Once finished talking about the mood of the chapter bring up the character development.

Direct Instruction: Students read aloud to each other. Once students are finished they will discuss chapter 9 and then proceed to reading chapter 10 . Once students are finished reading chapter 10 they will discuss and predict on what is going to happen in chapter 11 by writing out their individual predictions. Once they have written prediction they then turn the notes into the basket. Students and teacher will then discuss the internal and external conflict of the previously read chapters. CLOSING: - Comp Questions - Vocabulary - 2-3 complete sentences.

TRANSITIONS: To transition into the next class the students will need to hand in previous work and clear off desks.
