Sundae In 1890,retailer named Smithson had a pastry shop in Wisconsin.One Sunday Smithson ran out ice cream and there were no deliveries on Sunday.So he served smaller portions of ice cream,but he covered it with syrup,fruit and whipped cream.His costumers were delighted and the word about his new ice cream got out.Every day he had more and more costumers who wanted sunday ice cream.The spelling was chagned to sundae to avoid blaspheming the English word for Sabbath. Doughnut In 1847,Elizabeth Gregory sent her son capitain Hanson Gregory on one of his sea voyages with several doughnuts and recipe to make more.This legend has to versions.First version says that Mrs.Gregory made doughnuts with hazelnuts or walnuts,that's way they are called doughnuts.But Capitain didn't like nuts,so he poked them out.The second version states that capitain was having difficulty steering his ship and holding doughnuts at the same time.So the quick thinking capitain impaled his doughnut on one of the spokes of his steering wheel.Since then his cook baked only doughnuts with holes. Pommes frites In the 1930s,a cook from belgia was trying to make a stew.He sliced potatoes and he accidentally put them into a frying pan instead in the pot with the stew.But the problem was that those were the last potatoes and now the stew won't taste the same way.Soon the kitchen was possed with unique flavour.So cook decided to serve fried potatoes and the costumers were delighted.They asked him how are these potaoes called and he answered them in French pommes frites. Pretzels In 610 AD,an Italian monk invented pretzels as a reward to children who learned his prayers.He rolled the strips of dough and folded them to resemble arms crossing the chest during the prayer. Ice cream cone In 1904 at St.Louis World food fair in Missouri,Ernest Hamwi was selling patries.When a nearby ice cream vendor ran out of dishes,Hamwi rolled some pastry into a cone so ice cream could be put inside.The ice cream cone instantly became a huge hit.
