Zombieland Poster Analysis

This Zombieland poster has been edited so that the colour is faded making it almost black and white, the only colours that stand out are the ones in that tell the viewer the information they need to know about the film and the weapons the characters are carrying. The actors names, tagline and release date are all in plain white which stands out from the dulled greyish background of the image. The orange and red of the title and the IN THEATERS text connotes danger and are also very commonly used colours within the horror genre. The weaponry the characters are holding and the blood on the chainsaw connote danger and violence; also because the colour has been drained from the image it highlights them showing the viewer that some of the main themes within this film will most likely be violence and gore. From the background of the image we can see smoke, zombies and a ferris wheel; this shows the viewer that the movie will contain zombies which had already been made apparent by the title of the film, one of the main settings of the film could be a theme park connoted by the ferris wheel and the smoke is another main convention within images from the horror movie genre reaffirming the viewer that it is definitely a horror film. From the characters relaxed facial expressions and their casual poses while holding weapons the viewer could draw the conclusion that this film is a more casual care free representation of the horror genre, this makes it likely that it is either a parody or a horror comedy.
