What is an integer?

An integer is a whole number Every integer has an negative

opposite. |5| |-5|

Putting integers in order

When putting integers in order, you

have to remember to put the negative integers from greatest to least rst. Once there are no negative integers left you start putting in positive integers from least to greatest.

Adding integers with like signs

If you add a negative and a negative
the answer will be negative: -5 + -5 = -10

If you add a positive and a positive the

answer will also be positive: 7 + 2 = 14

Adding integers with different signs

If you add a negative to a positive, it is
just like subtracting a positive from a positive: 5 + -7 = 5 - 7.

Posotive to a negative: -8 + 9 = 1.

Subtracting integers
5 - (-9) = 14. I found the answer to this
problem using the stick stick technique. To use this technique, you convert the middle and last minus signs to plus signs and work the problem out from there: 5 + 9 = 14.

up. We subtract the negatives and get 21 positives.

subtraction on a number line

you have 5. Then you take away 7. you

are at -2 on the number line.

multiplying/dividing integers with like signs

When multiplying or dividing integers

with like signs, the answer will always be positive: -9 x -5 = 45. 90/9 = 10

multiplying/dividing integers with different signs

When multiplying or dividing integers
with different signs, the answer will always be negative: -8 x 9 = -72. -50/10 = -5.
