Chapter 8 City of Ember Struggling Reader Guided Reading

A. B. Background Information Literacy 5th grade Individual 15 minutes Guided Reading/ Context Clues Goals and Rationale To have the student connect and understand the importance of context clues to identify the conflict and possibly a resolution in Ch. 8. Knowing and using the context clues will help the student find and identify the importance of any text.

C. Teacher Objectives/ Standards and Benchmarks To have the student use context clues to be find out the conflict in the story. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.5.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text,
including figurative language such as metaphors and similes.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.5.6 Describe how a narrators or speakers point of view influences how events are described. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.5.5 Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem.
