Math 005

MA 005 PROBLEM SET COURSE INFORMATION: Remedial Mathematics 3 hrs (no credit awarded) Prerequisite: Either one unit of high school mathematics or a UA Mathematics Placement Exam score of 0-189. Course Description and Objectives: Math 005 is an introductory level algebra course. Upon successful completion of this course the student will have a mastery of basic algebra concepts and operations. Students will be able to perform operations with exponents, radicals, and algebraic expressions; factor polynomials; solve linear equations; and graph linear equations. Evaluation will be based on attendance, homework, quizzes, four major tests, and a comprehensive final exam given in the course during the semester. Course format: Working with instructors in the Mathematics Technology Learning Center (MTLC), students complete this course through a selfpaced computer based curriculum. Individual instructor assistance and tutorial assistance is provided in the MTLC. Who should take this course? Math 005 is an appropriate course for students with limited experience in studying mathematical concepts. It is necessary to build good fundamental skills at this level before proceeding to more rigorous courses. Math 005 provides the tools for students to learn and recall mathematical concepts and build a solid foundation before proceeding to the next level of math course. Any student without a placement score or transfer credit can begin their math sequence in this course. Text & Software: Beginning Algebra (9th Edition) by Lial, Hornsby & McGinnis, myMathLab (access code supplied with textbook). The software and the text book are included in one set.
