    Dialysis is the process of cleansing the blood by passing it through a special machine and is necessary when the kidneys are not able to filter the blood on their own. There are two main types of dialysis: hemodialysis which uses a machine to filter the blood outside of the body, and peritoneal dialysis which uses the lining of the abdomen to filter blood inside the body. Dialysis allows patients with kidney failure to live productive lives.
