    BMW TIS - 11 65 020 - Removing and installing/replacing exhaust turbocharger

    Removing and installing/replacing exhaust turbocharger Warning! Scalding hazard! Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.

    Necessary preliminary tasks: Removeacousticcover. Remove fan cowl . Remove air cleaner . Remove EGR heat exchanger . Remove exhaust system . Removeright pressure pipe .

    E60 / E61 with diesel particulate filter only: Disconnect plug connection and unclip plug housing. Slide pressure sensor out of holder and place to one side.

    Unclip both retaining tabs through openings and remove retaining plate in upward direction.

    Remove sealing cap in direction of arrow. Remove seal plugs (arrowed) upwards.

    Unfasten banjo bolt (4). Note: Catch escaping engine oil in a suitable container. Disconnect line . Unfasten hose clip (3). Detach return line. Release screws . Release retaining plate on engine block. Installation: Tightening torque 11 65 1AZ . Clean sealing surfaces. If necessary, replace turbocharger. Release oil line banjo bolt . Installation: Tightening torque 11 65 7AZ . Replace sealing rings. Oil line must run parallel to housing.

    Assemble engine. Important! To avoid damaging the threads and prevent turbocharger leakage, insert retaining screws in 1/2 turns simultaneously.
