1. Use commas between the dialogue and the tag line (Words used to identify the speaker, he said/she said) Only put a period at the end of a sentence, after the dialogue tag. 2. Note that punctuation must be before the second set of quotation marks. Always make sure that the punctuation goes with in the quotation marks.

3. When a tag line interrupts a sentence, it should be offset by commas. 4. To signal a quotation within a quotation, use signal quotes. You use these when you write a title, name, or articles. I love the movie 3:10 To Yuma! 5. Keep each characters response and descriptive material with his/her dialogues. You would start a new line in your dialogue when you change your speaker. 6. SPACING. When a speaker stops talking and it moves to a different speaker, start a new paragraph. 7. When a charcter takes an action after speaking, the action usually begins a new sentence. And should not be punctuated with a comma, as if it is a dialogue tag. 8. Question and Exclamation marks. These take the places of periods and commas, they ar not used in addition to them. 9. Capitalization. Never capitalize the dialogue tag. A lower case follows the punctuated dialogue.
