January/Volume2013/Issue1

DearAlphaIotaSisters,

Here it is January already. My first year as President is half over. Please accept my
sincerest thanks for your support as I have been learning my role and responsibilities of
this office. It has been so heartwarming that every time I have asked a sister to do
something for our chapter, there has always been a positive response. We can be a great team if we
just stay connected. Therefore, if there are any suggestions as to how I might improve or what we might
do to make the meetings/activities more meaningful, please let me know. Attendance at the meetings
has been great!
Last October was a very busy month. On October 17
th
, Nancy Dicken, Ann Hall,
Barb Lipp, Linda Lipp, Charmaine Lamoncha, Sue Weber-Nape and I attended the
Joint Chapter Dinner at A La Cart Catering in Canfield, OH. Entertainment for the
evening was Mackenzie Leskovec portraying First Lady, Jackie Kennedy. The high-
light was having our Alpha Delta State President, Dr. Norma Kirby, as our special
guest. I also traveled to Grove City, OH, on October 27
th
, to represent Alpha Iota at
the Alpha Delta State Executive Board Meeting. I learned a lot from the presentations Raffle winners-10/17
and received much advice and encouragement from fellow chapter presidents.
November, 2012, found us with busy fingers, creating fleece, lap-tie blankets for a holiday delivery to
some of our reserve members, all the while giggling at the teacher anecdotes of our members.
l u A C P-
Boardman Campus. The project director was thrilled with the quality of our contributions.
Also, during that month, Linda Lipp and I had the pleasure of visiting with two of our reserve
membersEsther Calhoun and Thelma Thomas. What a joy it was to listen to the many things
they had to say. Both were very enlightening visits. I encourage everyone to remember our
reserve members with calls, cards, or visits.
We have much to look forward to this spring and summer. The long-awaited 75
th
Anniversary of Alpha
Delta State will be celebrated at our annual convention on April 12-14, at the Easton Marriott in
Columbus. Everyone, not just officers, is encouraged to attend. An excellent opportunity for members
C tal of Ohio (before Columbus) will also take place
June 18-20, at The First Capital Seminar of 2013 in Chillicothe, OH. Registration forms for both events
are available A u S : http://AlphaDeltaState.weebly.com
Remember: This fall we welcomed two wonderful, new members in Laura Nappi and Pat Troy and a
beloved transfer member, Lee Marra. Delta Kappa Gamma members may be initiated any time of the
year. Please consider someone who goes above and beyond in educating our students, from children
through adults. The applications for membership are on the DKG website or you can call me for a copy.
See you in March!
Sincerely,
Gayle Noel (330-482-4562)

NEWMEMBERSJOINOURRANKS!
President Gayle Noel presided over the first meeting of the school year when Alpha Iota members
met at The Taste of Country Restaurant in Lisbon, on September 11, 2012. Gayle introduced the new
officers for the 2012-2014 biennium and distributed committee assignments, while giving an overview
of the duties/functions of each. The group voted unanimously to accept two prospective, new members
into our chapter, Laura Nappi and Pat Troy, both teachers in the Leetonia Exempted Village School
District who were sponsored by Marcia Bable. Georgia Farmer and Sharon Walker also showed their
award-winning county fair sewing projects to members. A group picture was taken at the conclusion of
the evening to be used in a display at the 2013 State Convention, in celebration of our 75
th
anniversary.
Our two new members, Laura Nappi and Pat Troy, were invited
to the Das Dutch Haus Restaurant in Columbiana for an orientation
meeting with the Alpha Iota Executive Board on October 2
nd
, 2012.
They were introduced to the mission, purposes, roles, and
responsibilities of membership in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International. Their initiation by
Parliamentarian, Nancy Dicken,
was a highlight of our October

at Firestone Farms in Columbiana. Each woman received
