Titanium Aluminides During the 1980s , an extensive effort has been conducted to develop titanium aluminide alloys based

on the intermetallic compounds , Ti3Al ( 2 ) and TiAl ( ) .Because of their ordered crystal structures , both families have attractive elevated temperature strength characteristics . When compared to conventional titanium alloys , these intermetallics offer higher stiffness as well as superior creep and oxidation resistance ( upto 1000 C ) with concornitant weight saving advantage. This system provides nearly 50% density reduction when compared to super alloys . Some properties of titanium aluminides are compared with those titanium and super alloys .
