1. Read the questions before reading the passage. 2. For reading passages, look for key words in the question, such as who, what, when, where, why and how, that tell you what to look for

Pre-Algebra
algebra is a common name for a course in middle school mathematics. The objective of prealgebra is to prepare the student for the study of algebra.

A Variable is a symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y.A number on its own is called a Constant.A Coefficient is a number used to multiply a variable (4x means 4 times x, so 4 is a coefficient)An Operator is a symbol (such as +, etc) that represents an operation (ie you want to do something with the values).

Example
Order of operation: Addition s the last thing you do:2+4(5)=2+20=22 O of o:multiply and divide:Whichever comes first:10/2(5)=5(5)=25

Multiplication of same base, you add the exponents Exponents mean that you multiply Division of same base you subtract the exponents Same sign=add Different sign=subtract
