Sim Lye Hock Lifesaving Age: 50 years old Coached: 20 years Lye Hock is a NROC coach who has been coaching lifesaving at the National University of Singapore (NUS) since 1998. He was also a recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation from NUS and the Award of Excellence from DHL Asia Pacific. In 2006, TeamNUS was Men and Women Overall 1 st at the DHL Lifesaving Challenge in Penang. Athlete Neo Puay Yong was also 1 st in the 100m Manikin Carry with Fin event and set a new national record at the National Lifesaving Championships. He also represented Singapore at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in the United Kingdom. Athlete Tan Hiong Hwee Melvin was 1 st in the Master 50m Manikin Carry event, 1 st in the Line Throw event, and also set a new national record for both events at the National Lifesaving Championships. Lye Hock helped his athletes secure subsidies for overseas competitions and trains alongside his athletes to inspire them to achieve their fullest potential. 33. Tan Sze Hwei Emily Lifesaving Age: 27 years old Coached: 10 years Emily is a NROC coach. She coaches lifesaving at the Water Sapiens Swim School and she also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Singapore Life Saving Society (SLSS) in 2006. Emilys athletes have represented Singapore at various overseas competitions. Ena Ng competed at the 50 th Jubilee competitions in Hong Kong, while Boo Xiaoying Christine and Wong Shi Yuen Melissa both represented Singapore at the Arafura Games in Australia. Emily regularly attends courses and conferences to upgrade her skills and keeps herself abreast with the latest knowledge in the sport. For instance, she attended the 4 th ISN International Sports Medicine & Sports Science Conference in Malaysia in 2006, and the Pool Lifesaving Officials Course as well as the Defibrillation & Defibrillation Trainers Course conducted by the SLSS in 2007. She is a friend to her athletes and shows concern for them whenever they feel unmotivated or when she sees that something is troubling them. She values athletes feedback on her training and takes their suggestions seriously. Despite being pregnant, she was there to provide support during our competitions -
