You can consider Micromax Canvas HD as this is one of the best smartphones at this price point. Other options can be Intex Aqua, Micromax Canvas 2 or Sony Xperia U.

Thanks a lot for your help in deciding which LED TV to buy. I am now looking to buy a laptop for a budget of under `27,000. I will be using the laptop for watching movies, listening to music, surfing the Internet, MS office and playing games like FIFA13 and NFS. I need 3-4 hours battery life, 15-inch screen size, DVD writer, 4 GB DDR, Card Reader, USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports, 500 GB Hard Disk, Good Sound output quality (SRS, Dolby or JBL), 3rd Gen Intel Core i3 or i5 and it should be Nolan D'souza, on email Windows 8 ready.

TECH TO STOP TERROR?

Recently, it was reported that a mobile application has been developed that uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to trace the location of other cell phones. Why cant such an application be used to trace stolen cell phones. Also, I suggest we should work on a device that can smell out RDX and other materials used in bombs. If phones become instrumental in preventing terror attacks, they would have really becomes smart.

The specs you have asked for are almost impossible to find in that budget. Dell Inspiron 15 seems the best buy in your range. Acer Aspire V notebooks are also available, but with Pentium Dual Core. Fujitsu Lifebook AH532, Asus X54C-SX454D are other models you can look at. Look at the new Acer Aspire V5 or Dell Inspiron 14 R if you can push budget to `35,000, which would be the best thing to do given your requirements. For options within your present budget read this old G&G story below. Read earlier G&G story on affordable laptops: http://goo.gl/R0qyJ

I want to buy a new Windows Phone 8 device. Can you tell which phone is better, Nokia Lumia 520, 620 or 720. I am using Windows 8 on my laptop and I like the experience very much. So is it better to have Windows Phone 8 instead of Android? I have a budget of up to `20,000. Arpit Mittal, on email If you have Windows 8 on your laptop, go ahead and buy a Windows Phone 8 device. We loved the first looks of the Nokia Lumia 720, but it is still not available in India. It is always better to use devices in tandem instead of using multiple platforms.

HP ELITE PAD 900

PRICE: ` 43,500

SPECS: 10.1-inch display; Windows 8 Pro; 1280x800 p; Intel Atom 1.8GHz dual-core nprocessor; 2GB RAM; 32GB in ternal storage, microSD card slot support; Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G; 680 grams; 178 x 261 x 9.2mm

o give its new tablet a premium feel, HP has opted for a good mix of glass and aluminium. The 10.1-inch 1280x800 p display is sealed behind a Gorilla Glass 2 and aluminium chassis. Everything is military grade and you have to just hold this device to vouch for that. At 680 grams, it isnt the lightest tablet, but the 9.2-mm thickness and thin edges makes it convenient to hold. The power key, auto-rotation lock, 3.5mm jack and volume controls have all been placed where they are easiest to access. There is also a covered flap at the back that holds a slot for a SIM card for 3G connectivity along with a microSD card slot for expandable memory. Taking a cue from Apple, HP has added a proprietary connector at the bottom for charging the tablet and connecting with the long list of accessories. The ElitePad 900 runs on

BY NIDHI SINGAL

Windows 8 Pro and is powered by 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor with 2GB RAM. This takes care of all the regular computing without any complaints. In addition to the Windows 8 features are HP apps like Security Manager, Credential Manager, Password Manager, Device Access Manager with Just In Time Authentication and Drive Encryption. The 1080p front facing camera can be used for high-end video conferencing. There is also an 8MP rear camera but we doubt if that would be used often. Images captured by this camera can be edited easily using the HP PageLift technology onboard. The loud and clear audio output works well for videoconferencing and watching videos. The battery is good and lasted close to 10 hours on a single charge. That is good enough to survive a days work under normal circumstances.

ACCESSORIES
HP has come up with a range of accessories that compensates for the missing ports on the tablet and makes it ideal to be used inside and outside the office

PRODUCTIVITY JACKET,
` 6,999

JACKET, ` 4,907
This multi-purpose jacket not only adds protection but also brings with it two USB ports, a fullsize HDMI port and SD card slot. But it adds considerable weight making the ElitePad heavy to hold. There is an option of adding battery to the jacket and turning it into a battery extender but this comes at a cost.

DOCKING STATION,
` 8,345

This jacket converts the tablet into a hybrid. It provides the much-needed protection while offering a superb keyboard. A host of connectivity options including USB ports and a memory card slot are placed at the back. With this accessory, the tablet can take three different postures.

This charging station too brings in a variety of connectors. It has got four USB ports along with an HDMI, VGA, Ethernet and Audio out. With this on the desk, the Elitepad is as good as a full-fledged PC.

BY NIDHI SINGAL

hen the camera was first integrated in a cellphone it was more of a gimmick. Now, however, more photos are shot on phones than cameras, showing how this blend of technology and devices was a winning combination all along. From the basic VGA cameras to optics and sensors that dominate the specification sheets of smartphones, the phone camera has come a long way. In fact, they have become so good and dominant that the entry-level pointand-shoot segment has been feeling the heat for a few years now. Here is a look at where camera tech in the phones stands at the moment. MEGAPIXELS What started with a basic 0.3MP camera has now graduated to a 13MP camera. We get the feeling that an 8 MP sensor is becoming a standard in the smartphone segment. But the higher megapixel count need not ensure a great image as that depends on a combination of factors such as lens, sensor, image

processing hardware and camera software. In simple terms, a large sensor means more light sensitivity and a better image. An 8MP sensor does not have to be large enough to give a flawless image. And this is why companies seldom speak about sensor size. SENSOR & SOFTWARE Nokia did really well with its 12MP N8 with the Carl Zeiss lens. But for its next flagship camera phone, the 808 PureView, the company put in a large 41MP sensor. The large sensor with Nokias PureView technology enables oversampling, which means a combination of many pixels are used together to form a super pixel. Now, the new HTC One has a 4MP camera which uses the Ultrapixel imaging technology. HTC claims its camera can shoot vivid, true-to-life images with a wide range of colours, even in

low light conditions. And this has not been achieved by increasing the megapixels, but by engineering a more advanced CMOS sensor, IPS and optical lens system that captures significantly more light. APPS For over a decade we have been relying on the phones native camera app for all our imaging. Now, there are numerous apps like Instagram that allow users to take images, apply filters or do basic editing and even share the results. Similarly, there are hundreds of camera apps on all platforms with specific or myriad functions. Interestingly, the new Nokia Lumia 920 has a lens feature built into the phone that collects apps installed on the phone to take images with special effects.

LG OPTIMUS G

GG

AN AVERAGE CAMERA SPOILS THE FUN

As we were waiting for the Google Nexus 4 and the recently announced Optimus G Pro, LG decided to launch the Optimus G in India instead. Available for `34,500, the LG Optimus G has a quad-core processor and a 13MP camera. That sounds really good on paper. But does it actually perform? The stylish rectangular body has a black glossy finish and a non-removable back. The Corning Gorilla Glass 2, an improvised version of the damage resistant glass, makes this device really sturdy and scratch resistant. There is some port or button on each edge of the phone. Weighing 145 grams, it has a 4.7-inch IPS+ display with a 1280x768 pixel resolution. The bright display really impressed us and it was comfortable reading on it. The colour reproduction significantly enhanced the video experience. Though an Android Jelly Bean phone, this doesnt look much like the others of its ilk thanks to the Optimus user interface running over the Android UI. This was a surprise with animation effects that made the device faster than most other high-end smartphones. We also have to thank Qualcomms Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor for this. This phone could handle multiple apps at the same time. However, the camera was a bit of a spoiler and just about average. The 13MP shooter did a fairly good job in daylight, but used indoors or in low light the images ended up with a lot of noise. The 2,100mAh battery gave us a day on average use.

GOOD BODY, BUT MIDDLING POWER

Stellar Pinnacle from Spice is a phablet with a largish 5.3-inch display and curved edges. For a change, this is one design that does not resemble the Samsung Galaxy series. The touch response is good, but the 960x540p is a bit too low for the big display and lacks clarity at times. Below are three capacitive touch keys that look different and illuminate only when tapped. There is also a dedicated camera key, something that is becoming extinct in Android smartphones. It launched the camera and captured images only when the device was unlocked. Overall, this device has good build quality, but the wide screen and 196 grams weight make it a bit uncomfortable to handle. Thanks to the dual-core processor, we could easily browse the web and download apps from the Play Store. It smoothly handled heavy graphic games like Shadowgun and there was no lag while playing. The onscreen keyboard was superb, but there was a slight lag when many apps were running in the background. The Stellar Pinnacle packs in an 8MP rear camera loaded with settings such as HDR and other regular modes you would find in a point and shoot. But dont expect outstanding results as we noticed noise in almost all images captured with this camera. For video calling Spice has added a 5MP front camera with HDR setting. Even here, the results were just about average. Video recording doesnt have anything worth mentioning. This dual SIM phablet has a decent 2,550 mAh battery that gave us a day and a half.

GMAIL IS STILL THE BEST, BUT HERE ARE SOME GOOD ALTERNATIVES
BY NANDAGOPAL RAJAN

emember the last time you send a personal e-mail to a non-Gmail account? Well, the answer to that question will sum up the popularity of Googles mail across the globe. Six years on, it is the worlds most popular mail service with around 500 million users. For all the good things it has given us, Gmail has also spoilt us. For years, most of us never bothered to

delete unnecessary emails, for Gmail had 10 GB of space. Now, we find ourselves struggling to create space for new mail. Maybe it is time to take a relook at old favourites that have reinvented themselves for new connected generation. Use them as a second mail or switch over completely. The latter might now be that easy though.

ICLOUD.COM As the name suggests, this one is for Apple users, who get this as a default with their device. For those who have an Apple account but rely on other services for mail, iCloud can work as a good backup with all files created on the iPhone or iPad being synced to this account. It is simple to use and has no clutter. As you would expect from Apple, there is no advertisement sharing space with your mail. The web client also gives you access to other Apple services like Calendar, Contact and Notes from the same landing page.
Ideal for: Apple users who are juggling with other platforms.

OUTLOOK.COM Microsoft has replaced the old favourite Hotmail with Outlook. If you have a Hotmail account you can migrate that id here and mail sent to the old address will automatically land in your new Outlook inbox. Since it was launched along with Windows 8, Outlook too has a minimalist, neat and clean interface with no clutter or irritating ads. The side panel is used to give access to additional info, mostly about the person who has sent the mail. You can also connect your social network accounts to this service. It is quite easy to organise mail here as you can select multiple files and send them to a new folder. You can also assign mails from a particular sender to land in a separate folder. Welcome features for people who get scores of mails every day.
Ideal for: People using Microsoft services, Hotmail.

YAHOO! MAIL? Yahoo! Mail is also making a comeback of sorts and has an all-new interface and claims to be faster than before. Yahoo! has designed the new mail in such a way that the experience is consistent across all devices. With the new version you can see thumbnails of attachments without even clicking on them. This is good for those who get mails with pictures. Then you can, without any external help, send attachments as large as 100MB. And, yes, there is no size limit to your inbox. All attachments are scanned on the cloud itself, warning you beforehand about malware. Yahoo! has given access to some apps linked to services like Flickr. It has also added DropBox for sharing files.
Ideal for: Those dealing with lots of heavy attachments.

How to

Video Blog

STEP 1
EQUIPMENT Equipment is no longer a worry, for good quality digital video can now be shot using camcorders or point-and-shoot cameras, even smartphones. Ideally, they should have HD (720p) or FullHD (1080p) resolution. Nowadays, almost all digital cameras and even top-end smartphones have FullHD. The DSLR camera has been gaining popularity in this area as it is considered an investment for capturing stunning photos and broadcast-quality video. Consider purchasing a tripod if you are going to be vlogging frequently, since it would add a professional touch and avoid shaky video.

STEP 2
SHOOTING Be creative with the placement of the camera and your position in front of it. There are a number of tutorials online that get into detail about composition. Make sure there is sufficient lighting. Recording in daylight is the best option, otherwise supplement with external lighting. When it comes to video production, lavaliere microphones pick up sound without noise disturbances. Be aware of any distractions. The microphone should be attached firmly to the collar and ensure it is on. The narration style is based on the nature of your vlog. Research and rehearse beforehand; prepare a script so youre not nervous in front of the camera.

STEP 3
PROCESSING VIDEO For editing video, you can use inbuilt software such as Windows Movie Maker or Apple iMovie. There are also free programmes available online for editing video like YouTube Video Editor, Video Toolbox and WeVideo. Essentially, these video editors will let you add background tracks, transitions, subtitles and the like. You can experiment with a few of these and stick to one that works best for you. You can upgrade to something more sophisticated like Final Cut Pro or Premier Pro later. The length of the video depends on the nature of the subject. Some recommend keeping them short, to a couple of minutes, due to bandwidth limitations. For the same reason, make sure your file is not very heavy.

STEP 4
PUBLISHING The video can be published directly through video sharing websites such as YouTube or Vimeo. Alternatively, embed video from these platforms along with textual content on a blog platform like Wordpress or Blogger. It has a number of video plugins, and even exclusive themes dedicated to video. This would be a good way to showcase content, especially if you are planning to go video exclusive. Come up with suitable titles and descriptions keeping search engines in mind. The video would have to be compressed, exported and uploaded based on requirements of the platform of choice. It is pretty simple just follow instructions provided on the website. You could even have a video podcast, where videos are uploaded frequently. RSS is a way to ensure people come back to your site.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND Provide SEO (search engine optimisation) friendly titles with appropriate descriptions, and make sure to test links. A few minutes to take care of such details, will make your venture worthwhile. Being meticulous about descriptions, rehearsing beforehand and testing equipment will all pay off. Be responsive to comments and get feedback from your audience. Showing that you care is part of building a successful vlog.

GAMES, GAMING GEAR, REVIEWS

Gears of War: Judgement is a prequel to the previous editions and is set around 14 years before the first game. Our favourite bad mouthed killing machine, Marcius Fenix, is replaced by Damon Baird, who leads a team of trigger-happy soldiers called the Kilo Squad. The team comprises of Gears champions Augustus Cole and Baird and two rookies Garron Paduk and Sofia

GLORIOUS, BUT GORY, COMEBACK

Hendrick. The game starts with the Kilo squad standing on trial for an act of treason. Each team member gives their testimony; each flashback taking control of each soldier. This is the first time in the Gears of War series that a narrative style is used and where you get to replay past events.

SLIGHT TWEAKS: The graphics make you feel at home if you have played the previous Gears of War titles. No doubt the game developers have ensured that Judgement is a treat to the eyes with crisp visuals. The biggest change, and a sureshot delight for gamers, is a host of new weapons to play with. Previously, one would be stuck with only a pistol, but now the Gears are equipped with a lancer, gnasher and any other weapon while using a boomshield. Also, now you can only have two main weapons, which allow you to swap and choose the ideal gun for the upcoming Locust onslaught. Activating grenades has become a lot simpler using the left bumper. NEW FEATURES: The declassified testimony adds objectives or challenges by making campaigns combined. There are some situations that will force you to use a certain weapon, equip the enemies with better guns and put a time limit on areas, which can be quiet annoying if you don't get it right quickly. The game will also put you in tight spots where you will be in a dust or smoke filled room and your objective is to get out without getting shot. Then there is OverRun, where one team chooses a soldier, medic or engineer, and makes them defend E-holes and generators from a locust attack.

TOMB RAIDER
Price: ` 2,499

Its been 17 years since Tomb Raider brought a revolution to the gaming world. Sceptics criticised Lara Croft as a wannabe Indiana Jones, but her thirst to explore the ancient, as well as the daredevil stunts and gunslinging nature helped her attain a cult status like Nintendos plump plumper Super Mario. Despite nine games and two blockbuster Hollywood movies, the franchise has recently been finding it difficult to compete with the likes of Prince of Persia and Assassins Creed. To reboot the Lara Croft mania, Crystal Dynamics decided to reveal the Lara from when she was not the accomplished Tomb Raider we know off. GAME PLAY: In her late teens, Lara is on a voyage to track a legendary Japanese Queen. Shipwrecked on a strange Pacific island, she finds herself confined to a dark cave. The inhabitants are a band of ruthless castaways. Interestingly, a young, trembling, Lara shows a nervousness which no other Tomb Raider game has ever revealed. This adds realism to the game and it is not just about escaping the blood thirsty goons but also learning to survive things as simple as learning to start a fire, use a bow and arrow and skin a deer. When she kills her assailant in self-defence you will see her collapse from the shock and the guilt of taking a life. All very different from its typical swashbuckling guns blazing style. AWESOME VISUALS: This easily has one of the best graphics in console gaming history after Crysis. Laras movements are beautifully visualised and thought out like her wary looks when she has to walk through flooded areas or automatically brushes her hand against when she walks past it. The audio effects and sound track add to the islands eeriness. MULTIPLAYER MODE: Stick to the solo campaign. This mode does provide some chaotic fun and comes with multi-levelled maps over the four match types, it is just a snack to the actual. The only good thing in this mode is that Lara moves faster. We would have preferred if she could sprint at times while going solo. VERDICT: This is the most complete game the franchise has come out with. Along with the camera angles and breathtaking gameplay, Laras emotions takes this title to a different level.

NO-NONSENSE BUSINESS ULTRABOOK

The Dell Latitude 6430U is a business Ultrabook. Dell claims it is the most manageable in the world since it is vPro-enabled. This means it uses Intels set of security and manageability capabilities. It also meets the best compliance standards as far as data protection in concerned. Plus, it features 3rd generation Intel Core i5 processors that make this a very powerful device. The benchmark tests we ran gave it a 4000+ score that is quite decent by any standards. However, it does heat up while doing some of the heavy duty stuff. The 6430 is a very convenient Ultrabook to use, thanks to a keyboard that is spill resistant and sports keys that have a slight curve to ease your fingers. This trackpad is a rarity with left/right keys

both on the top and bottom. There is also a track spot in the middle of the keys. The 14.0 HD (1366x768) Anti-Glare LED-backlight screen does not tire your eyes. It has good viewing angles too. The sound is good, but lacks a bit of fine tuning. But then this is a business laptop, as is evident from the host of ports that fill the sides of the device. The battery life is another good feature as even the three-cell battery can last upto six hours. There is also a six-cell option that will make this device heavier. The storage can be a bit of a dampener as our test device had just 128GB SSD.

GREAT IDEA, NEEDS BETTER EXECUTION

The invasion of the Androids continues. After televisions, it seems like a natural progression for a display to have a processor and an Android operating system inside. The ViewSonic VSD220 is a 22-inch FullHD display powered by a dual-core ARM-based OMAP 4 processor from Texas Instruments. Running Android Ice Cream Sandwich, this touchscreen display is actually an extra-large tablet. You dont need a CPU to run this monitor, and there are no options for doing so if needed. You can push in a micro-SD card, or connect an HDMI or USB device through micro ports. There are two other USB ports on the side. This device is just short of being an all-in-one. We say short because, like most Android tablets, this device too is under powered. Yes, you can use it to browse the web, download and use apps , but you just cannot do a lot of other things. For instance, it is almost impossible to tap into the Windows platforms, unless you have access to web services. But we could connect to Wi-Fi and use it to do everything we would with a tablet. The other issue is with the touchscreen, which can be a bit too stubborn at times. In fact, we had to use a wireless mouse. This is when there is just a power button on the device and you have to use the touch screen for all other settings. Overall, we thought this was a very innovative product that needs a bit of fine tuning. It is a good option for those who need a large screen, but not always for high-end computing.

LOCK DOWN A STOLEN ULTRABOOK

One of the biggest challenges of our connected lives is to secure our data at all times and in all situations. So a fear that grips most connected people is that of losing a device either a laptop, a smartphone or tablet that contains personal data that can be misused by miscreants. The McAfee AntiTheft software that comes pre-loaded in Acer ultrabooks running Intel core series of processors seems like a good solution. We tested the pre-loaded software on the Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook. READ REVIEW HERE

GREAT ZOOM FOR A COMPACT CAMERA

The Nikon Coolpix L820 has a 30x optical zoom, packed into a bridge camera body. This zoom is also the best feature of the camera. The 30x translates to 4.0-120mm and that is good enough for bird watchers and even to shoot the craters on the moon, provided you have a very steady arm. The image stabilisation is impressive, even at the long end of the zoom. However, do all your 30x shooting with a tripod. There are zoom toggles on both the lens and the trigger which is good while shooting different orientations. This 16MP camera has no manual settings like other new compacts and that is a bit disappointing. But you have all the automatic settings you will need along with a bunch of preset scene modes. There is no viewfinder and the LCD has a VGA display. So the image appears a bit too electronic, but trust us the results are much better. The photos lack a bit of subtlety, though. The camera can shoot FullHD video at 30fps and also comes with stereo recordings. The auto focus works really well in both still and video modes. The flash is good and does not burn out pictures like in most entry-level cameras and phones. However, use the flash sparingly as this camera uses four rechargeable cells that tend to drain out much faster than a Lithium-ion equivalent.

A SOUNDBAR AS CONNECTED AS THE PHONE

Your music needs are now invariably linked to your mobile phone or computer. This is why phone docks and sounds bars are becoming more popular than traditional music systems. A big advantage with these devices is their size and the multiplicity of connectivity options they offer. The Portronics Pure Sound Pro is a battery powered portable soundbar that can play music from any of your mobile devices or PC. It also has an inbuilt FM turner and can play directly from an SD card or USB drive. It takes a while to recharge the battery, after which you can take it where you want on the rooftop or for a picnic. The FM tuner is pretty good with a scanner and music quality that is MP3 quality. There is a button to change the mode to Aux or PC, both of which will need you to plug in the auxiliary cable that comes in the box. Though the company claims the USB cable is good for both power and transmission, it works only if the PC is not connected to another sound output. It is also sad that there is no Bluetooth on the device. But the Pure Sound Pro has really good sound and can be loud if needed. We were quite happy playing it in the middles, with John Denver asking us to follow him. But if you want to shake a leg to a Bollywood number, then up the volume and enjoy the Turbo Bass that gives an edge to this device. Another feature that we enjoyed was that it played all FLAC/APE lossless files which we usually use to test hi-fi systems. The battery easily lasts for over seven hours in full volume.

Many of us spend a lot of time in our cars and on office chairs, and even a good posture can lead to discomfort or pain after a while. The Osim uRelax has different options to meet your desired massage needs. Along with options to warm up and massage your AC-exposed back, the uRelax has a series of vibration modes in low, medium and high speed concentrated on your butt and thighs. There are three massage modes too swinging, rolling and Shiatsu making it feel more like a professional masseuse at work and not a massage chair. You can customise the experience by adjusting the width of the rollers and combining it with a full back, upper back or lower back massage. The OSIM uRelax's remote control is designed for easy operation and lets you select your desired massage programme, intensity and heat function. Each massage session is programmed to run for 15 minutes. This is not a cheap product. But the quality justifies the price and in the end the experience is worth every penny.

3M TOUCHSCREEN STYLUS
The 3M TouchScreen Stylus has a sleek body and a durable silicone tip. The stylus is easy to use and very versatile, making it an excellent accessory for writing on a touchscreen surface. It did a great job with some of the painting apps and we could apply pressure for thin and thick strokes. It replicates a pen like experience and keeps the gadget free of fingerprints.

SOUND THAT IS COLOURFUL, STYLISH

Swedish headphone maker Urbanears has entered the Indian market with its range of superbly designed and vibrant earpieces. Their top of the range Plattan on-ear headphones are classy and a bit loud on the design front. In fact, the review unit we had was tomato red and that too covered in fabric and leather from end to end. The only bit of chrome that shines through is on the 3.5mm jack. Even the cord is fabric and connects to the left ear cup. On the right ear cup you can plug in another jack to share music with someone really close to you. We thought this ZoundPlug was a great feature. The sound quality is really good, especially since this is not a very expensive unit by todays standards. The bass really came through and the lows were clear too. The ear cups fit tightly and keep most external noises out so. They are very easy to adjust and can be pulled down for each ear separately too. However, it does feel a bit hot inside after an album or two as this is not an open ear model. Plus, it comes with a mic and remote, letting you take calls from most phone models. All this makes the Urbanears Plattan a great value for money headset that also brings with it a splash of style. We used the ZoundPlug to connect to another Urbanears model, the odd-shaped Medis earphone. This earphone has a unique EarClick construction that locks the earpiece at two points in inside the ear keeps it in place whatever happens. The sound quality is good and we liked the fact that the design does not completely cut you off ambient sound.

ZYNC QUAD 8

GG

Price: ` 12,990

Specs: Android v4.1; 8 inch display; 1.5 GHz quad core processor; 2GB RAM; 8GB internal storage, up to 32 GB expandable; 5 MP camera; Wi-Fi, HDMI port; 471 grams; 5400 mAh battery

FINE BUILT, AVERAGE PERFORMANCE

Multiple core processors seem to be the next big thing for Indian tablet makers. While many have started shipping tablets with dual-core processors, Zync has pushed the envelope by adding a quadcore to its new slate. The name, Zync Quad 8, itself says a lot about this eight-inch tablet. The design is almost plastic-free and the tablet seems to prefer a vertical orinetation. The iPad-like aluminum finish on the back makes this stand out from others in this range. The eight-inch touch display has a 2MP front facing camera on top. An HDMI port, microSD card slot and microUSB connector are placed on bottom edge. The proprietary charging port is placed next to the speaker, but wasnt able to hold the charger comfortably and got

disconnected often. The Quad 8 powered up in less than 20 seconds and was ready for use. It offers the stock Android Jelly Bean interface without any tweaks. Along with the regular apps that are usually installed on every Android tablet, the Quad 8 also had 4k Video Player, dev tools and FireReader. The 1.5GHz quad-core processor is paired with a 2GB DDR3 RAM and as a result apps launched quickly and multi-tasking was incident-free. However, its Quadrant Benchmark score of 3006 was below par when compared to other quad-core devices. But that is okay considering the price.
