Rote Song Teaching Comments

Shannon Bahr: Lead Through that Sugar and Tea ~ Nice job starting by reminding them of posture. Monitor this throughout the lesson. ~ I like that you are asking for names! You are also doing a good job of beginning questions with indicating how you want students to respond to you. ~ I didnt see you get your starting pitch, but you were using E-flat as do. I might raise this and use F as do so that the lowest note is a middle C (rather than a B-flat). ~ You might sing the entire song a few more times so that they are really familiar with it before you do the echo singing. ~ As they sing, can you use non-verbal cues to help them remember the words (point to students a bit before you). When you did this, it helped! ~ I appreciated the way you stayed with students in order to help them be successful. They were able to sing this fairly successfully by the end and this was due to you monitoring and continuing to echo phrases when needed! ~ Once your section is finished, think about how you will get students ready for the next teacher or activity.
