CRICKET RULES & POSITIONS

Roles in a cricket team:


Batters Bowlers Wicketkeepers Fielders

Playing field/oval:
Crease
Wickets/ Stumps

4 foot = 1.2m

22 yards = 20.12m

Boundary line

Rules:
11 players per team Bowlers can only bowl 1 over at a time (6 balls) No balls are called if: the bowler steps over the crease line : the ball is bowled over shoulder height : the ball rolls along the ground A wide is called if the ball is bowled 1m on the offside (in front of) the batter or 10cm to the onside of the batter (behind the batter). 1 run is awarded to the batting team for no balls and wides AND an extra ball is delivered by the bowler. Batters can go out the following ways:

o Bowled (the batter misses the ball and it hits the stumps) o Caught (the batter hits it in the air and its caught by a fielder) o Run out (the batter runs and doesnt get their bat or body part past the crease before the ball hits the stumps) o Hit wicket (the batter hits the wickets with the their body or bat) o Stumped (the batter moves out of their crease, misses and the wicketkeeper hits the stumps over with the ball) Runs are scored the following ways: o Batter hits the ball and runs between wickets (ensuring bat goes over crease) o Batter hits the ball and it bounces before going over the boundary line- 4 runs o Batter hits the ball and it goes over the boundary line on the full- 6 runs o Batter does not hit the ball and the wicketkeeper misfields the ball and batters run between wickets- byes o Batters leg hits the ball and batters run between wickets- leg byes o Bowling team bowls a wide or no ball- 1 run

Fielding Positions: (Can choose any of the following positions MUST HAVE bowler & wicketkeeper)
