Jillian Schoer Student Teaching Professor Schneider Observation# 4 April 17, 2013 Reflection #4 In this lesson I taught students

how to apply process of elimination to answering questions on reading comprehension. I had introduced this lesson the previous day using SMART Board. For the introduction I defined key terms and explained when they are used. I wanted students to familiarize themselves with using the keywords. I had students repeat the words after I said them, eliminate, main idea, and process of elimination. In this lesson I had examples of process of elimination and main idea questions. I chose examples that could be easily understood by first grade students. I had example that said, Which is not a fast food restaurant? Mcdonalds, Burger King, P S 37 lunchroom, and KFC. This allowed for students to use process of elimination to eliminate silly answers. For a culminating activity I decided to have to students work cooperatively in groups to answer questions. The passage was about two students in the class and what they eat for breakfast. I think the students enjoyed working in groups to answer the questions. I enjoyed watching the students read the passage and work together to answer the questions.

Since I had the students work in groups I think for future lessons I will have them work in partners because the group sizes were way too large. The students were getting distracted from one another. Students were also sharing answers and having side conversations. Overall I think this lesson went very well! I am glad that my last observation went successfully, especially because this topic is higher level thinking.
