The pocket guide aims to provide a rapid, reliable and simple means to the identification of some birds in Sri Lanka. Professor Sarath Kotagama is a renowned zoologist and the first professional ornithologist in Sri Lanka. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Aberdeen in the UK, based on his research on birds of Sri Lanka. He was a founder of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka -an organisation dedicated to promoting scientific bird watching and bird studies.
