Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historical Park

This park allows the students hands on experience with Las Vegas history. The students can experience first-hand what the first settlers experienced living in Las Vegas. There are a variety of artifacts to view and a partial replica of the original fort with time piece furniture. This park is centrally located at Las Vegas Blvd. and Washington and is open year round.

Chief Wittwer will talk about how people shape the physical environment. He will provide examples of natural hazards. Identify natural resources and where they can be found in the neighborhood. Tell how the physical environment affects community activity, i.e., recreation, water usage.

Virtual Field Trips

This virtual field trip allows the students to walk the halls of the White House and experience this historical building up close and personal. You are able to navigate where you want to and see and observe objects up close. This activity allows the students to explore the White House and observe things that are of interest to them personally without physically being in the building.

This is another virtual tour field trip that allows the student full control of where and how they choose to explore the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. It gives the student the ability to see this museum up close. You are able to explore many of the different areas of this build and share in the learning experience from your own computer.

McCaw School of Mines Foundation

This field trip is geared towards Nevadas history in the mining industry. It allows the students to experience both Nevada history and the natural resources that are refined from the earth. This field trip destination will provide free transportation for all Clark County Schools. It also requires all teachers to take a training class prior to going on this field trip. This field trip is packed with a variety of hands on experiences.

Chief Sleep Easy an Washoe Tribe member of Native Nevada

Chief Sleep Easy will discuss and tell about Native North American life and cultural regions prior to European contact. He will also discuss the attributes of Native American nations in the local region and North America and the interactions of early explorers with native cultures.

Virtual Field Trips

The Statue of Liberty e-tour provides an up close and personal tour of the Statue of Liberty. Many students will never have the opportunity to see the Statue of Liberty in person. This tour provides many facts about the monument along with vivid pictures to help the students visualize this amazing historical site.

This virtual Field trip helps students to relate to many different areas of history. It starts by introducing you to the museum and then takes you to 3 different parts of the museum: The Wolf Diorama, The Giant Anopheles, and The Ahnighito meteorite.

1. Explain which field trip you think you will actually try to use.
I think that I would try to use all of these field trips depending on which grade I teach. I think that many of the different virtual field trips could be used for both the upper and lower grades. Going on traditional field trips helps to enhance and reinforce content areas that are taught in the classroom.

2. What challenges did you run into during this assignment?


I thought that it was difficult finding good virtual field trips. I had to do a lot of searching to find ones that I felt would be informative and interesting to the students. I know many different teachers that use virtual tours all the time in school. I am sure that there are many great tours available and would love to have the URLs of where they are found.
