10:30-11:00am Presentation on Proposal G (Dennis Knapp, Michigan DNR)

11:00-11:15am Summary of Regional Deer Meetings (Amy Spray, MUCC)

11:15-noon Approach Used to Develop Recommendations (Jordan Burroughs)


• “Will live with” consensus
• Criteria to keep in mind – what makes a topic an issue?
• What do we mean by strategic recommendations?
• General framework used to develop recommendations
• How will the DAT’s efforts fit into the deer management plan?

1:00-1:15pm Overview of deer issues #1-4 (John Niewoonder)


1. Why should the DNR manage deer (for what reasons)?
2. How (or should) the DNR get input from or represent the views of a
broad spectrum of members of the public at large and members of
the deer hunting community, some of whom are harder to engage
than others?
3. Should the DNR manage deer to provide recreational opportunity or
as an ecological resource or both? What should they be trying to
achieve?
4. How should the DNR manage deer given regional differences?
Should deer management be standardized across the state or
structured to address regional issues?

1:15-2:00pm Issue #1 Group Discussion - Why should the DNR manage deer?

2:00-2:30pm BREAK

2:30-3: 45pm Continue issue #1 discussion and determine whether a


recommendation is needed. If yes, work to develop a
recommendation. If no, begin discussing issue #2.

3:45-4:00pm Wrap Up

4:00pm Adjourn
