Opening Activity
What is your immediate thought when you hear the term The Great Depression? Talk to your immediate neighbors about your reactions. Discuss the students answers to the opening activity.
Set Up
Students can pair up. Each pair should take two pictures. For each picture you must start by describing the picture in detail in writing. You can go front to back, side to side but you need to give the reader enough detail that they can picture in their mind the picture that you are looking at. Then you need to do SOAPSS for each picture. You must gather information from the details in the picture that answer the SOAPSS questions. You should write down your belief as to the answer to the questions and what details in the picture your belief is based upon.
Assignment/Activity
SOAPSS: Subject: What is the picture about? Occasion: When was the picture created? Audience: Who did the author want to see the picture? Purpose: Why was the picture created? Speaker: Who created the picture? Significance: Why is the picture important enough to still be around hundreds of years later? Power point presentation
