While many of these words had already been around in some sense, Shakespeare often combined words, or changed nouns into verbs, etc. He would have done this because he needed is words to rhyme or fit into iambic pentameter. For example, although the word assassin already existed, Shakespeare coined the word assassination to describe the act of an assassin.
