Through this internship program I was able to learn more about my career choice and how to improve in areas where I needed improving. . I was able to apply what I have learned in my classes to things that I have had to do in my internship. In turn my internship has also taught me things that can help me do better in my academic career. This opportunity has taught me so many great things and a lot of different ways to perfect my craft. This internship has been a blessing from God to not only be able to learn from my amazing teachers but to also to learn from people who are currently in the field and are teaching me short cuts to roads that took them a long time to learn. I am completely convinced that there was no other way to truly know that media is my passion until you are actually doing it and you are finding yourself in that environment. *OVERVIEW

I have completed my internship at the 7:30 pm entertainment show Deco Drive that airs on WSVN 7. This internship experience has been the highpoint of my studies. While there were many exceptional events during the internship I particularly appreciated those times when I truly felt like an entertainment reporter. Those moments came when assigned to cover restaurant openings and to interview celebrities like model Adriana Lima, BcBG owner Lubov Azria and boy band Mindless Behavior. Description of Agency Channel 7 is a Fox affiliated news station that is located in North Bay Village, Fl. Deco Drive has been running for 12 years WSVN is run by Sunbeam Television. Their slogan is The News Station this is because their main programming is news. They offer news from 4pm until 11pm with Deco Drive in between at 7:30pm. Deco Drive is an entertainment news show. It is hosted by Lynn Martinez, Louis Aguirre and Shireen Sandoval.

*Description of Supervision I met with Odette Burton the assignment planner every day. She helped me with my packages and she also made sure I always had something to do while I was there whether it was going on a shoot or logging interviews. She gave me feedback on my work and where she thought I needed to improve and make changes which I did.

*Description of Assignments - Logging Interviews Typing out the sounds on tape from celebrities. - Getting interviews from celebrities - Writing packages to be aired - Script writing- Writing what the anchors will say on camera. - Swimming with seals at The Miami Seaquarium *Learning Outcomes: a. Students will acquire and demonstrate critical thinking skills. * The course Introduction to Film Art And Analysis(COM-233) helped me to think critically because there were certain things that I needed to notice in movies. This course taught me to think outside the box and question why the filmmaker did what they did in every aspect the movie. From dress code to props. What message were they trying to convey of watching their film. I was able to get a different take on what I was watching by thinking critically.

b. Students will develop and integrate the ability to write in an articulate, complex, and clear manner. *This course Composition For The Professional World(Com 400) helped me practice how I should speak to my employers. It also helped me when it came time to do my interview for my internship I was able to correctly

answer their questions without any hesitations but also making sure I made a good impression. I also learned how to properly write my resume in an impressive and educated manner. c. Students should be able to identify and produce quality production materials for their area of study. *The Course Broadcast Production (COM-310 helped me to learn how to edit. In this course we were taught how to put together a show and also how to put together a great production. We were able to measure every aspect and really know how to put something spectacular together and for it took look amazing. d. Students should be able to express themselves orally in a clear, articulate and intelligent manner in a variety of situations. *Speech(COM 105) was one of the most important courses I have taken. It helped me slow down when I spoke and also it helped me articulate so that the audience can understand me better.

e. Students should be proficient in current technology. *Broadcast Production(COM 310)- This course also taught me how to use the latest technology when it came to editing. We learned how to use final cut pro as a great editing tool to put together our TV show. Dr. Moyano really taught us each aspect of Final Cut and really helped us become professionals with the software. This helped me at Deco Drive when I had to put together packages because I was able to tell the editors where I wanted transitions and cuts. It helped me have a better vision of how I

wanted my packages to look.

f. Students should be familiar with, value and demonstrate culturally competency in a multi-cultural environment. *Society and Mass Media(COM 102)- In this course I was able to learn how different media appeal to different audiences. It also helped me realize why people take the actions that they do depending on what shows they watch. It showed me that there are many different types of viewers and that these stories that are aired on Deco Drive affect the way the viewers see the world.

g. Students will understand the power of media and the ethical use of that power. *In Society and Mass Media(COM 102) I also learned about things like yellow journalism and how it is accepted in different countries but not in the US because here we feel we need to respect the families of those who might have died in a tragic way. I also learned the different theories of journalism and if they were ethical or not. I had to question my morals when writing scripts for the anchors. I had to be sure that what they were saying was not offensive to anyone.

h. Students will establish and develop leadership skills. *Internship(COM497)- During my internship I was sent out on

assignments by myself and I was able to take the lead on things that I wanted to ask and also which angles I wanted my shots. Here I was also able to write my own packages and direct the editors on exactly how I wanted my stories put together.

Conclusion: your evaluation/conclusion about your internship experience including a. Successes and recognitions- I did a package on the seal swim at the Miami Seaquarium, which was aired, on Deco Drive and so were the interviews that I conducted with The Miami Heats Big 3 Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh and James Franco. b. Limitations- Package writing was very much a challenge. I love to write how I speak which is not the correct format even though they were lenient because that was their format. By practicing I was able to get a lot better with packages and gained more confidence in my work. c. Recommendations- I would definitely recommend Deco Drive to anyone who would like to intern there it was a great learning experience. They really took the time to make sure you knew how to do everything. There are about 8 producers in the office and every single one of them was able to teach me something different. Whether it was on package writing or how to ask better questions during an interview.
