Matt Whitmire Named Head Football Coach at Centralia HS

Coach Whitmire takes over Tigers after serving as an assistant last year
CENTRALIA, WA Matt Whitmire has been recommended for hire to the Centralia School Board as the Head Football Coach at Centralia High School, CHS Athletic Director, Josh Lowe, announced on Monday afternoon. Coach Whitmire was a football assistant during the 2012 season and is already a staff member at Centralia High School, serving as one of its counselors. Coach Whitmire takes over a Tiger team which finished with a 0-9 record in 2012. Coach Whitmire is a 1987 graduate of Tenino HS and was a three-sport athlete there before moving on to play football at Iowa State University. Whitmire has coached previously as a head football coach at the high school level at both Pe Ell and Columbia HS (White Salmon). The 44-year-old Whitmire is married to Kari Whitmire who is an accounting manager for Boeing and is a former fastpitch player at UCLA. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1991 from Iowa State University and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from St. Martins in 1994. Whitmire was born and raised in Marysville, WA before moving to Tenino. The Tigers open their fall campaign on Friday September 6, 2013 at 7pm when they host Hoquiam HS at Tiger Stadium.
