The California Standards Test is a statewide exam given to all 2nd thru 11th grade students in the late spring of the school year (for year around schools this time can vary). The tests are aligned to the California content standards in the following subjects: English, math, history, and science. Student performance on the exam is measured in bands: Far Below Basic (FBB), Below Basic (BB), Basic (B), Proficient (P), and Advanced (A). Students are expected to at least score proficient on all the exams. The CST scores also determine a schools API (Academic Performance Index).

English Tips
1.) Read a book, newspaper or journal in English that is just above your current level of reading with a dictionary. This will help to learn new vocabulary words in a fun way. This is also a great tip for improving English in a technical field. Even by spending a mere 15 minutes a day, your skills can improve drastically. 2.) Listen to speeches or watch movies or documentaries in areas you aren't familiar with are fun tips on improving English. This activity will help improve listening and vocabulary at the same time. At first you can use subtitles, then turn the subtitles off when the listening part of this activity becomes easier.
Bar Graphs
Bar graphs convert the information in a chart into separate bars or columns. Some graphs list numbers along one edge and places, dates, people, or things (individual categories) along another edge. Always try to determine the relationship between the columns in a graph or chart.
