About The Test

The California Standards Test is a statewide exam given to all 2nd thru 11th grade students in the late spring of the school year (for year around schools this time can vary). The tests are aligned to the California content standards in the following subjects: English, math, history, and science. Student performance on the exam is measured in bands: Far Below Basic (FBB), Below Basic (BB), Basic (B), Proficient (P), and Advanced (A). Students are expected to at least score proficient on all the exams. The CST scores also determine a schools API (Academic Performance Index).

How Ive Prepared for the CST


How I have prepared for the CST is by listening in class. The next thing is that I have to do all my homework. The last thing is that I never have to give up on a State Test.

How SFMS teachers have prepared me for the CST


How they have prepared me for the CST is by helping me with my homework. They make sure that I do my work in class for Fridays test in math. By explaining the work I dont under stand on the board.

Test Taking Tip:The Night and Morning Before


The week before the test, ask your teacher what the test is going to cover. Is it from the textbook only? Class notes? Can you use your calculator? If you've been absent, talk to friends about material you may have missed. Make a list of the most important topics to be covered and use that as a guide when you study. Circle items that you know will require extra time. Be sure to plan extra time to study the challenging topics.

Test Taking Tips: During the Test


First, be sure you've studied properly. Get enough sleep the night before the test. Listen closely to any instructions. Listen closely to any instructions. Focus on addressing each question individually.

Math tips
shows an example of a skill that was taught in class, and allows the student to explain the skill to a parent or family partner.You should give regular homework problems for the student to master the skill.

English Tips
1.) Read a book, newspaper or journal in English that is just above your current level of reading with a dictionary. This will help to learn new vocabulary words in a fun way. This is also a great tip for improving English in a technical field. Even by spending a mere 15 minutes a day, your skills can improve drastically. 2.) Listen to speeches or watch movies or documentaries in areas you aren't familiar with are fun tips on improving English. This activity will help improve listening and vocabulary at the same time. At first you can use subtitles, then turn the subtitles off when the listening part of this activity becomes easier.

Changing Percents, Decimals, and Fractions

Bar Graphs
Bar graphs convert the information in a chart into separate bars or columns. Some graphs list numbers along one edge and places, dates, people, or things (individual categories) along another edge. Always try to determine the relationship between the columns in a graph or chart.
