submitted by: Isis Lopez Valdez

Draw table on the board (Unit Resources, p. 12) classify jobs with help of students.

4. Independent activity Community Bulletin Board (TE 56): Write about your favorite community helper. Draw a picture to illustrate what you wrote about. Work will be posted on a community bulletin board. 5. Closure: Discuss the two questions in the Review and Assess section of the TE 57. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Explain the study guide (Unit Resources p. 13) students will identify two helpers from their community. Students will complete study guide independently. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must identify different helpers that help others in the community. Completing the vocabulary and study guide (Unit Resources p. 13), will show if students understand the different occupations that help others in the community. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think that classifying jobs part will be the easiest because students already know about safety and keeping healthy. They know that doctors are associated with being healthy and they know that the police help keep us safe. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think that teaching why helpers are important to the community will be the most challenging because students in the first grade see things from their personal perspective and for their personal benefit rather than the communities benefit. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will extend this lesson by having students role-play community helpers; this will help them understand what the community helper does and where the community helper works. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I can write two headings on the board, Community helpers and Community places, students will then see the relationships between the two. I could also make word and picture cards for each. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

If any, the part of the lesson that might need to change is the independent community board activity; first graders are still getting used to writing, therefore it may become a drawing activity with a heading or title instead of a writing assignment, depending on the level of the student. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part was coming up with the proper sequence and with a good assessment.
