Mark Schleier One of the most influential reasons why Environmental Education was established in 1970 was due

to the conservation education era during the Dust Bowl. The funding supporting this era marks the first major point in history that both federal and state governments became supportive of environmental teaching. The second is a series of events found in American history, such as the Blood River incident, where young Americans brought environmental issues to court and won. The final influence was the increased demand from U.S. senators for environmental education towards young people. Other forms of nature-based educations are usually very specific and individually focused on a specific aspect of the environment. Shortly after the NAAEE was founded, the Alliance for Environmental Education was founded which now brought a wider range of environmental thinking and perspectives to the environmental education movement. In 1980, the president of the NAAEE created the national commission on environmental education research. This further developed and strengthened the NAAEE both financially and collectively. The National Environmental Education Act of 1990 gave power and a political standing on environmental issues. It meant that there would now be increased EE training programs, as well as the office of EE in the EPA. (92 Words) It was "the world's first intergovernmental conference on environmental education." The Tbilisi focused on how to carry out the process as an environmental Educator. It was an extremely important event for the world because it set standards that would be carried out globally, to the national level. One of the most influential books written was 'Silent Spring,' by Rachel Carson. This book went into detail about pesticide use and the negative impacts associated with it. Another very influential book written was 'the quiet crisis,' written by Steward Udall. This was another powerful book that not only focused on what had been destroyed by Americans, but what was going to be destroyed if nothing changed. This book was also backed by the White House, which meant political connections. Gaylord Nelson created the first Earth Day celebration, which is still today globally celebrated and used to educate the environment.
