Strategy: Expert readers know that they must follow the dialogue carefully when characters are talking with each other. They must try to imagine how the characters would be saying the words. The author will not usually tell you how it should sound. You must use your experience in life to help you figure this out. This is your puzzle to solve. Focus #1: As you read, look for places where there is dialogue and pay special attention to how you think it would sound. Write down page numbers where there is dialogue that you can read out loud with the expression you think fits the situation. Write down the expression you would use.
