The TERMS used:

1. Realia & Authentic Materials Realia: anything we can bring into our classroom in order to convey a specific meaning, so it can
be a real object, props, object representations, etc. This type of material has a teaching & learning purpose.

Authentic materials: authentic material is any kind of written or oral information that is expressed in

a foreigh language, and it doesn't have a teaching purpose. However, we, as teachers can use them to adapt them to our classes as a genuine language use

BENEFIT of using them: Realia and authentic material are a motivating genarator so that students can be hooked in the lesson. Disadvantage: Nevertheless, using this type of material may have some disadvantages as well; for instance, it may be a time consuming tool because teachers have to look for them and adapt them to the lesson, or even sometimes they will have to create them. Another important drawback is that it may imply spending more money to get it, etc. As a piece of advice would be important to keep in mind that anything that helps us to have better classes is worthy

Accuracy versus Fluency: Accuracy activity: primary purpose is to help students achieve accurate perception and production of a target item which can be a sound, a word, or a sentence structure Fluency activity: the primary purpose is to help students practice language in listening, speaking, reading, and/or writing activities to so develop fluency in using the language in spontaneous communication

Accuracy-oriented activity & Fluency-oriented activity: An accuracy-oriented activity such as pattern drills is usually used in the teaching of a new target item; A fluency-oriented activity such as extensive reading and information gap aims to develop the students' spontaneous communications skills in using what they have already learned.

Structural Approach versus Modular Approach: Structural:


An approach based on the teaching of the different areas of 'grammar' in a language; eg present simple tense, conditionals, adverbs and adjectives etc. A structural syllabus will view the language in terms of linguistic structures of which there will be: - grading & sequencing, using functional approach

Modular Approach: follow a designated standardised units or dimensions
