The term property is extraordinarily difficult to define. The ordinary person definesproperty as things that are owned by people. However, the law defines property as rights among people that concern things. All of the rights of ownership, including the rights of possession, to enjoy, to use, and to dispose of a chattel or a piece of land. PROPERTY n. anything that is owned by a person or entity.
word proprietas is derived from proprius, an adjective meaning peculiar or own, as opposed to communis, common, or alienus, anothers. Thus, even before it comes to be a legal term, property in the West expresses what distinguishes an individual or a thing from a group or from one another.
