Chapter Three Auxiliary Views

Introduction to Auxiliary Views

When an object contains features that are inclined or oblique, then a view other than one of the six principal views must be derived that would show those features in their true form.

Types of Auxiliary Views

Primary Auxiliary View Secondary Auxiliary View Successive Auxiliary View

Primary Auxiliary View

is produced by positioning the auxiliary plane parallel to the inclined surface of the object and perpendicular to one of the principle planes.
Its construction is dependent upon two principle views.

Secondary Auxiliary View

is constructed by positioning the projection plane parallel to an inclined surface of an objected that is featured in a primary auxiliary view.
It also requires the use of a principal view for the transfer of measurements.

Successive Auxiliary View

When an auxiliary view is created from a secondary auxiliary view it is also constrained by two other views, either a primary auxiliary view and a secondary view or two secondary views.

Glass Cube Theory

The glass cube theory for auxiliary views states that the cube conforms to the object.

Repositioning the UCS

Repositioning the UCS to one of the endpoint of the surface in which the auxiliary view is need, allows for the use of polar coordinates.
