Art of Over The Pond

By Chris Rogers

Initial Idea
My initial idea was have an animation about a gnomes struggle to get to the opposite side of his pond so that he can meet the love of his life, however there is a twist in the end. The animation is meant to symbolise the troubles people go through to find love. The style of the piece will focus on cartoony style of gnomes, through this a squash a stretch type animation will emerge.

Modelling the character

The turnarounds that were drawn in the designing allowed me to model the character very quickly

Texture Maps
Through a process of Mudbox texturing and Displacement maps, I managed to get my model looking a lot better than the old attempt (bottom left) to something that looks like a clay gnome. (bottom right)

This very time consuming rig is very powerful and it is used for production quality characters however it turned out it was too powerful for me to handle. The rig broke, so I started to make a simpler one.
