    How to install ProFTPD server on Ubuntu 12.04 in a easy GUI way ?

    Step1: Install Gadmin-ProFTPD using Ubuntu Software Center. Gadmin-ProFTPD will install the actual ProFTPD server as a dependency.

    When asked choose install as standalone server. If warns about overwriting old conf file, ignore that warning and continue installation.

    Step2: Open Gadmin-ProFTPD Control Panel.Go to Configuration tab. (We need to configure the server and the user who will have access to it.) Step1.1: Click on Standard to Load the standard settings and the hit Save to commit that.

    Step1.2: Enter Server Name and Admin Email. (You can enter anything you Like). Click on Apply. Leave the default settings for other options.

    Step1.3: Generate the Certficate. Fill the form and hit Apply.

    Step1.4: Creating the user. Give any username you like. Enter password, must be more than 6 \characters. Sudo gedit /etc/shells -Click on \Add Directory and add the \ftp upload/download folder. (Here /ver/www/ftp is used. You \can \choose any other directory you feel ok.) -Click on \Apply to save the \changes.

    Open terminal : run: sudo usermod -u 998 proftpduser (This will hide the ProFTPD user from upper panel) Thats all. Now \click on \Activate to start the ProFTPD server.
