Visualising the lungs

In quiet respiration, the lungs' inferior margin travels following a 6, 8, 10 contour (i.e. rib 6 in the midclavicular line, rib 8 in the midaxillary line, and vertebra T10 posteriorly). Anterior view, the horizontal fissure on the right side follows the contour of rib 4 the oblique fissures on both sides follow the contour of rib 6

Posteriorly, the oblique fissure on both sides is located in the midline at the spine of vertebra T4. It moves laterally & downward, until it meets rib 6 close to the costal cartilage.
