Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.

History of Starbucks

The name Starbucks was inspired by the first mate in Herman Melvilles Moby Dick and the logo from the sea and the twin-tailed siren from Greek Mythology. The first Starbucks was founded in 1971 in Seattles Pike Place Market. It has now grown to serve millions of customers daily in over 60 countries with over 18,000 locations.

Starbucks offers more than 30 blends of coffee, hand-crafted beverages, merchandise, fresh food and consumer products, such as Starbucks Ice Cream and Ready-to-Drink bottled beverages.

Starbucks was founded with the desire to create a sustainable company with a balance between profibility and social responsibility. We practice ethical sourcing in buying the highest quality coffee while still practicing responsible purchasing, supporting farmer loans and forest conservation programs. The Starbucks brand is also committed to environemental stewardship and has made it a goal that by 2015 100% of our cups will be resuable or recyclable. Furthermore, community involvement is extremely valued and we hope to reach one million volunteer hours by 2015. We truly believe in fostering communitites and helping them thrive.
