Our9thgradestudentswillbeengagingincollaborativeandindependentpracticeasthey composemultiplepiecesofcreativeandacademicwriting.Throughoutthecourseofthe schoolyear,studentswillcontinuouslywriteintheirpersonalizedWritersNotebooks,and shareselectpiecestotheirclassmates.Theywillexperiencethewritingprocessthrough thelensoftheauthor,literarycharactersandtheindividualreader.Inturn,studentswill strengthenanddeveloptheirknowledgeandskillsofcriticalreadingandwritingastheyre assessedontheuseofthefollowingkeycharacteristicsofbookreview: theme outliningtheplot audience&tone transitions

Minilessonswillbetaughtontheabovegenrerelatedconventions,andstudentswillwork independentlyandinsmallgroups(basedonthegenreoftheirchosenreadingnovels)in ordertoeffectivelyunderstandanddelveintotheartofcomposingabookreview.Theywill createmultipledraftsastheyworktorevise,editandselfassesstheirworks.Peerand teacherfeedbackwillbeprovidedthroughouttheprocesstoensuretheproductionof developedandsophisticatedreviews.Allstudentswillpresenttheirfinalbookreviewsto theauthenticaudienceandcommunityofclassmates.Finally,studentswillreflectontheir practice,involvementandwritingprocessinorderforthemtorecognizetheirstrengths, weaknessesandfuturegoalsforfurtherlearning.
