Experiment: Plants and Nutrient

Aim: to show that plant need complete nutrient to normal growth Hypothesis: Plants need complete mineral to grow healthy. Variables: a) is kept constant: type of seedlings/size of seedlings b) is manipulated: Minerals in the culture solution c) is responds: Health of seedlings Material: 5 boiling tubes, test tube racks, 5 pieces of black paper, 5 rubber bands, 5 seedlings (corn seedlings), culture solution, and distilled water.

Steps: 1. 5 boiling tubes are shown in the diagram are prepared and labeled A,B,C,D and E 2. All the boiling tubes are covered by using black paper. 3. All the boiling tubes are placed in front of the windows to make sure they are exposed to the sunlight. 4. All the seedlings are observed for two weeks. After 1 week, the culture solutions in each test tube are replaced with the new solution.

5. All the observation is recorded in a table. Observation:

Plants A B C D E Height of seedlings High and healthy Short and weak Short and weak Short and weak Short and very weak Leaves of seedlings Size Colour Big Green Small Small Small Very small yellow yellow yellow yellow Roots of seedlings healthy Weak Weak Weak Very weak

1. All the boiling tubes are covered by black papers to make sure the culture solution is not exposed to sunlight and prevent the growth of algae. 2. Algae will compete with the seedlings to absorb nutrient from the culture

solutions. The seedlings will lack with the nutrients. 3. After 1 weak, most of the mineral in the culture solution are absorbed by the seedlings. 4. Seedling in boiling tube A is the healthiest because in the boiling tube A has all the minerals needed for growth. Conclusion: Plants need complete nutrients /minerals to grow healthy.
