Mr. Gargaro's lecture on Hoovervilles (10-15 min) Video (video is 3 min, discussion about 3-5 min) -Students will turn and talk to someone next to them reacting to the video. What did they take away from it? -Mr. Gargaro will call on students to share their reactions with the class. Quickwrite and Share (10-15 min) -Students will be asked to write a quickwrite pretending what life would be like if they lived during this period -Students will be asked to share if they would to and a bit more discussing will ensue. Poster project (25-45 min depending on time left) -We will have students get into their Ipad groups. -The person from each group with the longest hair will come grab a piece of paper with 1-6 on it, referring to one of the vocab words from earlier. -The student who did NOT come up to get the piece of paper will get their group's Ipad. -Explain the poster project: Students will make a poster (on a white black page) describing the vocabulary word written on their piece of paper (1=black thursday, 2=black tuesday, 3=great depression, 4=Herbert Hoover, 5=shantytowns, 6=dust bowl) Poster will include: 0 vocabulary word's definition 1 a symbol or drawing representing the word 2 4 fun facts about the word (the amount of facts in this part of the lesson is subject to change, depending on how much time we have at the end of the lesson) Students will turn in their finished posters (if they do not finish, thats ok) If there is still time left, we will wrap up by calling on students to explain a vocabulary word.

Reflections:
Overall, the lesson went very smoothly. The Kids seemed to enjoy the whole thing, especially researching on the iPads and making the posters. One thing I would have changed was to shorten the amount of time spent on the quickwrite, we spent about 15 minutes when it should have only been about 10 to allow them a bit more time for research. Ms. Klein seemed please and she used this lesson for her other classes as well. My favorite part besides seeing the finished posters, was the lecture I did on Hoovervilles. It went smoothly and the kids actively participated in it by asking questions. I cant wait until I get another opportunity to teach again!
