*About the Minister of Environment of the Czech Republic H.E. Mr. Tom Chalupa
Tom Chalupa was born on 3 July 1974 in Prague. He studied at three Faculties of Charles University in Prague: the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (1993 1995), the Faculty of Arts, Department of Political Sciences and History (1993 1996) and the Faculty of Law (1994 2002). He was employed as an Editor in the newspapers Veernk Praha and Denn Telegraf (1993 1996), where he was also Deputy Editor-in-Chief (1996 - 1997). He was the Spokesperson and Head of the Press Department of the Government of the Czech Republic (1997 1998) and also as an employee of the central office of the Civic Democratic Party (1998). Between 1998 2002 he became Deputy Mayor of the Prague 6 City Ward and was the Mayor of the Prague 6 City Ward between 2002 and the beginning of 2011. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in the 2010 elections. Mr. Chalupa has been a member of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) since 1992 and Chairman of the Area Association of the Civic Democratic Party of Prague 6 since 2002; he has also been the Vice Chairman of the Prague Regional Association of the Civic Democratic Party (October 2003 April 2010). In the years 2006 2010 he became a member of the Executive Council of the ODS (December 2010 - January 2012) and again re-elected as Vice-Chairman of the Regional Association of ODS Prague. Since 17 January 2011 member of the Executive Council of the ODS. President Vclav Klaus appointed Tom Chalupa Minister of the Environment on 17 January 2011. Tom Chalupa is married and has three children.
