Motor Protection Settings Joe Henson

This technical update provides information on setting the CWP overload protection device for the main RO pump. This information may be useful when replacing the RO pump or the MCS1 overload device, as well as for troubleshooting power problems or making adjustments because of nuisance tripping of the protection device related to motor overload conditions.

There are three types of RO pumps used in the US: 1. WTW615007002, CWP 101-102, RO-pump model - SP2A- 21, 3x208 / 60 / 8.10 2. WTW615010001, CWP 103-104, RO - pump model - SP3A-18, 3x208 / 60 / 7.30 3. WTW615005001, CWP 106, RO-pump model - SPA-24, 3x208 / 60 / 11.8

To adjust the MCS1 overload device, observe the following procedure. (see next page)

MCS1 (overload) The overload protection setting adjustment located on MCS1 should be adjusted based on the nameplate data attached to the pump.

Motor Controller will trip to the 9:00 position. Must be turned to 3:00 position to reset. Generally the overload is set at 125% of the nameplate amp rating for the voltage listed, this will provide optimal protection for the pump and still provide enough amperage for starting the pump without creating nuisance tripping of the overload device.

Note: amperage may vary depending on voltage being used at the specific location.
