Art Lesson 1 Doodles and Scribbles Ages 5-7

Purpose: Experience different media Experience how mood affects drawing Developing Right brain

Supplies: White paper or sketch pad Assorted markers, pencils, oil pastels Various music

Lesson Plan: 1. 15 minutes: Put on lively music and scribble with markers. Use entire piece of paper. Hold marker in fist like toddler. Instead of doing what looks good just go with what you are feeling and the flow of the markers on the paper. 2. 15 minutes: change to peaceful music and repeat the activity on a new piece of paper. 3. Doodling: use the remaining time to do an unstructured drawing. Let your lines flow out of a feeling. Without planning, randomly let the next line grow out of what is already there. Repeat this until the drawing takes on a look you like and you feel like it is finished. Change medium as desired. ALTERNATE: NO Music 1. Begin in one spot on your paper and start drawing doodles. Create as many doodles as you like- RULE: no doodles should overlap or touch any others. 2. The doodles can be the same (pattern), all the same shape, or squiggles. 3. If there is time, color them in.
