: : " " : " " " " Title of the Fatwa: The mistake of saying: "La Hawla wa la quwata illa billaah" concerning hardships Shaykh:Muhammad bin Saaleh bin 'Uthaymeen Source: Sharh al-Mumti' Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen said in his Sharh al Mumti': If the person says: Am I tested with some hardship until I say: "Laa Hawla wa laa Quwaata illaa billaah" (There is no power or strength except with Allaah) ? The Answer: No, because what is general amongst the people is that when hardship befalls them is that they say: "Laa Hawla wa laa Quwaata illaa billaah" and what is legislated is to say "Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji'oon" (To Allaah we belong and to Him we will return) as for this statement: "Laa Hawla wa laa Quwaata illaa billaah" (There is no power or strength except with Allaah) then it is legislated during suffering and it is a statement of seeking aid not a statement of seeking return.
